Warmth on Winter Nights

South 24 Parganas

Volunteers meeting families along a roadside during a winter relief drive

When the fog settles over the delta, our volunteers set out with blankets for elderly people and families who have nothing to keep out the cold.

Winter in the Sundarbans is damp and cold, and it is hardest on the elderly. Many live alone in mud houses or spend their nights near the roadside, with only a thin shawl to keep warm.

During our winter relief drive, volunteers went door to door and along busy roads and bridges, stopping wherever someone needed help. Each person received a new, thick blanket, handed over personally so that no one was missed.

For those who could not come to a distribution point, the team brought the blankets to them. Those are the moments that remind us why this work matters.

No one should face a winter night without a blanket.
